The G38 was the Pennsylvania Railroad's first purpose built car to move ore to steel mills from ports and mines. The G38 was built in the PRR's Samuel Rea shops in Hollidaysburg, PA in 1960 to replace aging open-top hopper cars that were prone to leaking. The PRR built 1,000 G38's, numbered 15000-15999.
These cars survived through the end of the PRR, Penn Central, and lasted on Conrail into the mid 1990's. The Oley Valley Railcar G38 Model will be available in both PRR and CR. PC versions will be available in later runs.
