The Long Runner was TTX’s innovative approach to extending the service life of its fleet of 89-foot flatcars by adapting them for continued Trailer-on-Flatcar (TOFC) service.
In this configuration, two 89-foot flatcars are permanently coupled using a cast steel drawbar in place of standard couplers. This arrangement allows for three 53-foot trailers to be carried: one on each car, with a third spanning the drawbar between them.
The OVRC model represents the second Long Runner variation. In this version, either two BSH-type cars or a combination of one BSH-type and one F89F car are permanently joined by a drawbar. Our model depicts the latter arrangement, featuring one F89F and one BSH car connected as a semi-permanent pair.
